Five Star Luxury, Unzipped
“I decided that the true luxury of this high-end summer camp is not its control over nature, but the lengths to which it goes to poetically frame it.”
Zander Abranowicz, Travel & Leisure
Our original, charming dining tent is what first put the resort on the map long ago, when its image graced the covers of travel magazines all over the world, and luxury tenting in the Americas was a mere idea. The bistro dining tent, as it has come to be known, remains a favourite place to dine or to host small get togethers. We have since added a great timber Cookhouse and a second, larger dining tent.
The family dining tent, which also serves as a corporate meeting room, wedding dinner venue, and special occasion private dining space for family reunions and group dinners with new friends made on site – and the bistro tent, flank the outdoor lounge that surrounds the exterior side of an immense double-sided fireplace that warms the Cookhouse.
Nearby, a games tent, by day hosts children and families playing vintage and contemporary low-tech games of chance, and by night welcomes couples for ultra-romantic candle-lit private dining, or après dinner sherry and barrel-aged cocktails.
Ironically, our multi-purpose activities tent – fashioned after the golden age of adventure travel and exploration – is very often the chosen place to do nothing, and do it very well. Impossibly comfortable overstuffed sofas and chairs invite lounging, reading, relaxing and respite from everyday. Each afternoon from about four o’clock until dinner time, resort activities directors host guests, in turn, recounting their day and planning the next day’s adventures.
A billiards tent, strategically out of earshot, but within sight of the Cookhouse decks and lounges, hosts children and families by day, and becomes a late-night gathering place for die-hard players by night.
Unplugged by choice: Though not advertised, complimentary guest wireless is available in all lounges and guest tents. To encourage complete relaxation, and to respect the intimate, low-tech nature of the resort experience, wireless is not available in dining tents, the spa, or the Cookhouse.
