A Greater Camp

More than a century ago, the term ‘great camp’ was first used by and about the fortunate, to describe the manner in which they ‘camped greatly’ in the wilderness. At the time, ‘camp’ described an outpost or non-permanent residence, and ‘great camp’ described an illustrious one. In 1916, trophy hunting figured prominently and nature was to be enjoyed but dominated.
