Five Star Luxury, Unzipped

“I decided that the true luxury of this high-end summer camp is not its control over nature, but the lengths to which it goes to poetically frame it.”

Ivanhoe Lounge

New to the resort waterfront is the Ivanhoe Lounge, a beautiful glass lounge named for and inspired by the resort’s much-loved 110-foot-long tugboat, the SS Ivanhoe, in service from 1907 until 2013.  This adult-oriented space rests at the very edge of the estuary, at the point where the Bedwell River spills into the salty Pacific at Bedwell Sound.

Glass Lounge

Eleven foot high, floor to ceiling windows on two sides look out over one of the most biodiverse natural environments in the world.  Black, bear, eagle, blue herons, otter, seals, martin and other wildlife go about their business on the foreshore, while inside, guests lounge beside a gas fireplace enjoying handcrafted cocktails.

Upstairs, a rooftop lounge provides just enough elevation to look straight down to the bottom of the emerald green Bedwell River, and out across the towering forested sides of the 11-kilometre-long fjiord.  From the roof deck, nature unfolds in true glory, daily; the best place to be in the fall, when all six species of salmon return to spawn, and the estuary virtually percolates at low tide, as the fish, determined to fight their way upstream to dig or fertilize eggs, out-maneuver harbour seals, eagles and other predators trolling about for an easy meal.  A gas firepit and cedar deck chairs invite lounging well into the evening, and on occasion, live entertainment is provided on the upper or lower decks.

By arrangement in advance, the Ivanhoe lounge can be booked for private dining and special events.  A special event fee may apply to cover dedicated event staffing.
